Overview
hyprdm is a monitor layout manager for the Hyprland window manager on Omarchy / Arch Linux. It pairs a graphical layout editor with profiles that apply themselves automatically as screens are plugged in and out.
What it does
- Drag-and-drop editor — built with GTK4 and libadwaita, with edge snapping
- Catches bad modes — flags fake modes, like the 1920×1080 that 5:4 VGA monitors offer behind HDMI-to-VGA adapters, and only offers scales that divide the resolution evenly
- Layout warnings — overlapping screens, and screens the cursor can't reach
- Safe apply — every change auto-reverts after 15 seconds unless you keep it
- Profiles by monitor, not port — matched on make, model, and serial, so
USB-C dock outputs that change from
DP-2toDP-5still match - Hotplug daemon — applies the matching profile whenever monitors change
How it's built
Python with GTK4 and libadwaita for the editor, a CLI for status, save,
apply, and auto, and a daemon for hotplug. It writes its own config file
that Hyprland loads on startup.
Status
The core, CLI, daemon, and editor are all in place, with unit tests covering the core logic.
